Frequently Asked Questions
Are all weddings photographed by you personally?
Yes, I photograph every wedding personally. Also, every image shown on my website or in person has been photographed by me. Many other photographers (especially large studios) use the bait and switch tactic of showing the work of their best photographers and then sending their lower quality photographers to photograph your wedding.
Do you bring an assistant?
No, I feel that bringing a second photographer does not compliment my photojournalistic style of photography. I try to remain as unobtrusive as possible to capture moments in an authentic atmosphere while remaining as unnoticed as I can. Bringing another photographer would make that more difficult, if not impossible.
What is your background in photography?
I have a background as a photojournalist as well as a strong background in digital imaging and editing. I also have a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) degree in fine art with a concentration in photography.
What type of equipment do you use?
I use the latest Canon digital SLR camera equipment when photographing weddings. The specific camera I use is a Canon 1D Mark IIN, which is designed specifically for photojournalism. It produces a high quality 8.2 Mega Pixel image, and is known as the fastest digital SLR available.
During the editing process I use the latest version of Adobe Photoshop (CS2) to carefully edit each image, maximizing sharpness, contrast, cropping, color accuracy, and saturation. The editing is done on a carefully calibrated monitor designed specifically for graphics professionals.
Do you have backup equipment?
Yes, I do have backups for all of the essentials including: camera bodies, lenses, memory cards, and batteries.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, I do have business liability insurance. If you need any more specifics, I can e-mail you the details of my insurance policy (a few reception halls require this).
How long after the wedding will I get my pictures back?
Packages 1 takes 45 to 60 days from the wedding date to be completed. This is due to the extensive amount of digital editing (20+ hours) that goes into every wedding. Click here for more detailed information about the turnaround time of specific packages.
What types of final wedding albums are available?
There are 2 separate types of final wedding albums available. The leather binder style album is an economical way to display a selection of enlargements from your wedding. The second type of album is a more traditional style window matted album. There are several varieties available, and they can be seen at www.albumsinc.com . Of the albums listed on their site, nearly all non special order styles colors and designs are available for the standard package price.
Do you have a limit to the amount of pictures you take during a wedding?
No, I do not have a limit to the number of pictures I take during the wedding day, but I generally shoot between 600 and 1000 images. Those 600+ images are edited down to the most meaningful 300-450 images that you receive on your image CD/DVD and proof album.
Do you shoot in black and white?
Because I am using digital photography, I shoot all weddings in color. However, during the editing process I can convert images to black and white at no extra cost. If you would like all of your images converted to black and white and added to your CD/DVD set, just let me know.
How intrusive will your lighting and photography equipment be?
One of the main goals of wedding photojournalism is to make every attempt not to distract from the important interactions that take place throughout the wedding day. I use the flash only when necessary, and prefer to stand farther back, if possible, to capture interactions between the bride, groom, friends, and family. Also, I rarely ask someone to stop what they are doing to pose.
Can we purchase the negatives/full resolution files from you?
Every package I offer includes all of the high resolution digital image files. This will allow you to make reprints and enlargements at your own discretion, using any printer or printing service you would like. However, you may also order high quality reprints and enlargements through me if you wish.
